GMASCO receives recognition for digital campaign

GMASCO’s recent digital campaign for Toyota on behalf of Al-Futtaim Motors received much attention from the advertising industry, as it was shortlisted for ideation, creativity and effectiveness at this year’s MENA Digital Awards held in Dubai in March.

GMASCO took the Toyota Yaris out of the showroom, fitted it with hidden cameras and sensors, and placed it at popular hangout spots frequented by members of the model’s core target group. Passersby were surprised to hear the Yaris talk to them and their reactions were captured on camera. These were then posted to Facebook and Twitter, creating a highly impactful viral effect that promoted the Yaris in the realm of social media.

The entry was nominated under the category of ‘Digital Activation’ and beat off the competition from thousands of other entries from the entire region, all vying for a place on the prestigious shortlist.

The latest award comes hard on the heels of GMASCO’s previous accolade for the same commercial at the Motivate Val Morgan ‘Best use of Cinema’ where it won gold.

“This is a great example of how creativity and effectiveness can seamlessly blend to develop campaigns that add value to the sales cycle of clients’ products, and prestige to the advertising agency that creates it” said Charles Awad, Director - Group Marketing Communications, Al-Futtaim.

GMASCO’s internal Training Programme for 2014 is in full swing as part of the management’s strategic
commitment to the team members of the Middle East’s fully independent, 360° integrated marketing communications agency.

Internal training

“The advent of new media has dramatically altered the marketing industry’s landscape and in a totally integrated environment like ours, the way we interact with each other, our clients and consumers constantly evolves. Our training programme endeavours to update the skill sets of our team members while equipping them with the intellectual capital and know-how necessary to help them advance their game by strategically responding to the multi-disciplinary, omnichannel needs of our clients,” said Charles Awad, Director Marketing Communications, Al-Futtaim.

Module one of the three month programme commenced on August 13th with ‘The Art of Client Servicing’, followed by ‘The Basics of Public Relations’. Detailed dives into ‘How to Create a Marketing Plan’, ‘How to Judge Creative Work’ and ‘Understanding Print Production Process’ followed to complete round one of the programme, which was well attended by the majority of the agency’s 185 communications professionals. Other courses among others included ‘Insight Mining’, ‘Basics of Media Buying & Planning’, ‘Digital Marketing’, ‘Basics of Market Research’ and Operational Finance.

“Real integration starts and ends with seamlessly connected people and processes. At GMASCO, we pride ourselves for being able to deliver a level of integration that is in sync with our clients’ expectations and well above the industry’s average,” added Awad.

The media launch event of Toyota’s all new Yaris Hatchback was also shortlisted in the Best launch Live Event category for succeeding in establishing the car as a favourite for the urbanistas of Dubai (and the UAE) by associating it with in-city activities relevant to a young, hip, artistic and fashionable audience. Just two more car launches by different manufacturers made the shortlist.

“MEPRA’s recognition comes hard-on-the-heels of our recent award from Motivate Val Morgan for Best Use of Cinema commercial and nominations received earlier this year for our creative and event organisation work and demonstrates the depth, breadth and talent of GMASCO’s diverse and fully integrated marketing communications offering,” said Charles Awad, Director - Marketing Communications.
